Luke Lambert Chardonnay 2024

Yarra Valley, Victoria, AustraliaLuke Lambert's top chardonnay, this rings with cool climate Yarra minerality. From the same vineyard as his Syrah, these 25+ year old vines grow on a layer of volcanic soils over granite studded yellow clays, on a higher altitude, windy site. After a native ferment and ample oxidative handling, this was aged 9 months in older puncheons, and bottled without fining or filtration. Meyer lemon, Anjou pear, fresh green apple, and crystalline lemon is shaped by flint, and dotted with flake salts which linger long on the finish. A striking wine now, and with time ahead.Prices:

Roland Lavantureux Grand Cru Chablis Vaudesir 2023

Chablis, Burgundy, FranceThe Lavantureux Vaudesir is a powerful Grand Cru Chablis. Its richness and weight are surprising given its modest 13% alcohol, but that, along with bright acidity, is what keeps it Chablisienne in the end. The amphitheatre-shaped vineyard has a south/southwest exposure. The farming is lutte raisonnée / sustainable. Fermentation takes place in a mix of tank and barrel, depending on the cuvée or lot. It spends 12–15 months in 50-80% older oak, with a small portion of freshness coming from stainless steel. Expect a dry, medium to full bodied Chardonnay with bright natural acidity that balances out what was a warm year. Look for ripe lemon and peach, rich, exotic apricot and vanilla, with a mineral, oyster shell, saline finish.Prices:

Chablis, Burgundy, FranceRoland Lavantureux is a subtle yet respected name in Chablis. It is a family owned estate in Préhy, with over 20 hectares of vineyards across the village, including Premier Cru and Grand Cru areas. The '22 Fourchaume is a force from the right bank, north of the Grand Crus, from what can be described as a warm, generous, earlier ripening growing season. Honestly, it has a bit of Grand Cru weight and a modern Fourchaume take that blends precision with quiet depth. Look for lemon, green apple, and some sea spray with a dusting of hazelnuts. The palate is unusually supple yet still has enough minerality to carry off the Chablis character, thanks to a chalky, saline finish. You can drink this now and through 2027. There is no need to wait. Perfect for restaurants.Prices:

The vineyard is planted on Kimmeridgian limestone rich in fossils, which imparts tension, minerality, and cool citrus. Notes of lemon zest and green apples are complemented by oyster shell and chalk dust. Extensive lees aging at Lavantureux helps keep the '23 balanced, even amid the warmer growing conditions. Domaine de la Sarazinière Mâcon-Bussières Claude Seigneuret Vieilles Vignes 2024

Mâconnais, Burgundy, FranceCreated by Claude Seigneuret in 1926, the Domaine de la Sarazinière estate name derives from the small lieu-dit surrounding the original family home in the village of Bussières. Today, it is run by father-son Phillippe and Guillaume Trebignaud, with organic/biodynamic farming and classic Burgundian low-intervention winemaking. This label is named for the founder and comes from four very old parcels planted 1926-1940 on calcareous, rocky, south facing soils. The wine is vinified and aged for 11 months in French oak barrels, 10% of which are new. The nose is an appealing mix of baked apple, pear, and toasted hazelnuts, with light toast and spice that spread across the palate, pulling you into the wine. Real Bourgogne at an affordable price. Blue Grouse Estate Siegerrebe 2024

Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaThe siegerrebe grape sits outside the mainstream varieties in BC, but it plays to Vancouver Island's strengths of aromatic lift, moderate alcohol, and easy charm. At Blue Grouse, the siegerrebe is sourced from BG Ranch in the Cowichan Valley. It is fermented and aged in neutral French oak barrels, with some lees stirring to build body and mouthfeel. Its strength lies in the opening: a mix of fragrant citrus, spicy litchi, and dried apricot. The palate is dry, vibrant, and expressive, showing lemon, litchi, and slightly bitter citrus rind in the finish. Try something hyper-local and different.Prices:

Villota Viña Gena Viñedo Singular 2021

Rioja Alavesa, Rioja, SpainVillota is a fourth generation family owned winery, established almost 100 years ago in Rioja Alavesa. They co-founded and supplied grapes to Contino, Rioja's first single estate winery with CVNE, before they decided to focus on their own name and brand in 2013. This is a Viñedo Singular, a relatively new classification for single vineyard, old vine wines. This dry farmed bush vine tempranillo was planted in 1930, in Laserna's sandy soils, close to the Ebro. Destemmed berries were native fermented in concrete with skins over 18 days before moving to 500L French puncheon for MLF and aging. It remained there (50% new) for 14 months, followed by 3 months in concrete. Crushed florals and crushed stones mingle on the medium bodied palate, surrounded with jammy plums, fragrant boysenberry, and scrubby herbs. Tannins are finely grippy and structural, kissed with concrete's rasp and seasoned subtly with toast. Very graceful, and an entirely different, fresh lens with which to view tempranillo.Prices:

Blue Grouse Pinot Noir 2023

Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaBlue Grouse continues its steadfast march into the future, now backed and buoyed by Jackson Family Wines. This Cowichan Valley pinot noir comes off estate and neighbouring fruit, and was fermented in amphorae and stainless steel before resting 18 months in a mix of new and neutral French barrels and puncheons. Arriving at a slight 11.5% alcohol, this slender pinot streams crushed raspberry, cherry blossoms along a saline laced palate, with fine, sticky / sapid tannins pinning in the sides to a stony finish. Haven't seen this level of finesse from Blue Grouse before, and it's a welcome change. Enjoy now with anything salmon or wild mushroom.Prices:
