Hillside Mosaic 2018

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe just released 2018, like its predecessor, comes with 7 years of age at the winery. The ’18 blend is entirely Naramata, but it is a departure from the usual. Typically, merlot leads the band, but in 2018, for the first time, it is a malbec that leads at 35%, followed by a 29/16/13/7 mix of merlot, cabernet franc, malbec, cabernet sauvignon, and petit verdot. The tannins are well along in the aging process, bringing a dense, chalky texture to the mid-palate, and a silky finish. Again, it is more Bordeaux than Napa. It spent 21 months in French oak, of which 43% was new. The malbec has leaned out the mid-palate, which will please some and disappoint others, but all in all, it follows the lead of the last decade, which has given us a Naramata red with dignity and class that is long on grace and style. Ready to drink at the table.Tasted: 21 April 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
