Martin's Lane Naramata Ranch Vineyard Riesling 2022

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Naramata Ranch is a spectacular site where topology and geology are a winegrower's dream. It is planted across several elevations on soil that is mostly just rocks. Upon closer examination, you find a mix of red granite on the surface over granite bedrock, and it is everywhere. The site is grass free primarily because it won't support grass or any other cover crop. The vines are 45 years old and own rooted to an unknown clone, adding another layer to this wine's complexity. The fermentation and aging are completed in German oak stücks. On the palate, the style is opulent, with a strong floral streak and a dusting of sea salt on the back end. It has an intense, fresh, stony, mineral, lemon-lime palate suited to almost any food you can think of serving. The Ranch sits at the northern end of the Naramata Bench, at Latitude 49.67˚ - Longitude 119.64˚before running up against Chute Lake's mountains. It is hand sorted, and not all the berries are crushed before pressing, sans sulphur. All serious opulent stuff for wine geeks. Speaking of geeks, the fermentation is spontaneous in German oak casks. The alcohol is 12.4%, the residual sugar is 6.0 g /L, and the pH is 3.02.Tasted: 17 February 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
