Rodney Strong Zinfandel Old Vines 2020
Sonoma County, California, United StatesThe 15 acres of old vine Russian River Valley Zin planted in 1904 remains from when Rodney Strong arrived in the 1970s. It gets small fruit additions today from the Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys. 2020 was a dry year across Sonoma, with shrinking berries and bunches enriching fruit concentration. Thus, it was the perfect weather for old vines. Look for peppery, black raspberry, jammy fruit that pervades its soft, round palate. A bit of coastal influence keeps it fresh and bright, balancing the mellow vanilla oak finish. The winery recommends serving this with spiced short ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, or a barbeque chicken pizza. I would add a strong, mature Italian cheese.Tasted: 17 January 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $28.99 | 750ml | BCLS |
