Rodney Strong Zinfandel Old Vines 2017
Northern Sonoma, Sonoma County, California, United StatesAt Rodney Strong, the 15 acres of old vine Zinfandel planted in 1904 remains as it was when Rodney Strong arrived in the 1970s. The current Old Vines zin has some fruit from the Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys added to complete its Northern Sonoma AVA. 2017 was up and down weatherwise, with massive spring rains followed by six separate heat waves, including a 110 F Labour Day. None of which seem to bother the old vines. There is one percent petite sirah in the mix, contributing to the fresh berry from the Russian River mixed with peppery, black raspberry jammy fruit from the Alexander Valley and Dry Creek. The textures are gentle with a whack of plummy boysenberry and vanilla flavours. You can drink this now, and I suggest any of the following menu items: barbecued ribs, duck pizza, pulled pork, or a favourite hard cheese.Tasted: 18 January 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $21.00 | 750ml | specialty listing |
