Tenuta di Arceno Chianti Classico 2021

Tuscany, ItalyArceno has always been a rich red, mixing sangiovese with 15% merlot, but in 2021 with the help of one of the driest vintages in Tuscany in the last century, this wine has an injection of vivacity and freshness that is front and centre. A mild, wet winter provided an optimal growing season. Large diurnal shifts were behind the near perfect vintage, through lower yields and high-quality grapes expressing vibrant, concentrated acidity and powerful tannins. It is Chianti Classico with amazing aromas of tart cherries, strawberries, and violets that pepper a palate of blueberries, cedar, and oranges streaked with white pepper and licorice. There is some tannin to disperse, but this wine is always better with five to seven years of bottle age. Tenuta di Arceno spreads across 1000 hectares of classic rolling hillside containing vineyards, forests, and medieval castles. The vineyards have been replanted and expanded into a series of micro crus relating to the property’s 12 distinct meso climates over the last 20 years, vastly improving the fruit that gets to the winery.Tasted: 28 November 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
