Champagne Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Special Club Grand Terroirs de Chardonnay 2017

Côte des Blancs, Champagne, FranceSpecial Club (Club Trésors) is an invite-only group of 25ish grower champagne vignerons, recognized for the quality of their wines. A Special Club champagne is different from their other cuvées, can only be made in outstanding vintage years, and is packaged in the special distinctive bottle. Gimonnet is quite distinct in often releasing numerous Special Club bottlings in a single vintage, reflective of the privileged 30 hectares of vineyards on the prized Côtes des Blancs. This, the Grands Terroirs de Chardonnay, was their first Special Club release, back in 1971. The 2017 edition blends 57% Cramant, 33% Chouilly, and 10% Cuis, from old vines (back to 1911). All were fermented in stainless with full MLF over 8 months before blending and heading to bottle, where it remained for over 5 years sur lattes. This was disgorged in 2023, with 5 g/L dosage. Powerful, with perfumed lemon blossom, white cherry, chalk, lemon peel, and a medicinal / herbal salinity across a silken core. Very harmonious, with a surprising tangerine twist on the finish.Tasted: 29 November 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
