Cambria Chardonnay Katherine's Vineyard 2022

Santa Maria Valley, Santa Barbara County, Central Coast, California, United StatesKatherine’s Vineyard, named for Katie Jackson, is located on the coastal Santa Maria Bench in Santa Barbara County. The property is typically fog covered and cool most mornings, providing a surface asset to match the underground fossilized seashells, shale, limestone, and sandy soils. The winery describes Katherine’s Chardonnay as an “ocean-influenced, single vineyard expression of refrigerated sunshine.” I love the style of this wine, rich in flavour yet fresh with intense citrus, ripe red apple, and tangerine with a drizzle of honey. Best of all is the bright mineral finish. This chardonnay is a mix of clones: 4 (75%), Wente, 76, and 96, primarily planted in the 1970s. The fermentation has been reduced to a 50/50 mix of stainless steel and barrel fermented juice. The former sees zero malolactic fermentation, while 50% of the barrel fermented juice goes through malolactic. All the wine is barrel aged on lees for five months in 18% new French oak.Tasted: 28 November 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
