Burrowing Owl Viognier 2022
Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaI like how BOV is tightening up its wine style. It is not enough to scare off its legions of fans but just enough to interest those who want more style and complexity in their wine. The style is exotic and plush up front, with peaches and honeysuckle leading the parade. Sweet cantaloupe and spice rule the mid-palate while the finish is clean, if a bit short. BOV picks its viognier by hand, and the grapes are hand harvested from their estate Osoyoos vineyard. They were sorted and dropped whole cluster into a pneumatic press and the juice was gravity fed, 75% into oak barrels and 25% into stainless steel for fermentation. All of the wine goes into the light to medium-minus toasted French oak barriques and 500L puncheons for nine months, of which only 14% was new, with 36% one to two year old, and 50% neutral oak barrels.Tasted: 08 November 2024Tasted by: Prices:BC | $40.00 | 750ml | winery online/direct |
