Chateau Montus 2017

Madiran, Sud-Ouest, FranceThis is a rugged, slightly rustic iteration of Chateau Montus from Alain Brumont, one of the leading vignerons in Madiran. Veering more savoury than the previous 2016 vintage, this is led by humus, leather, and game, alongside toasted spices, cedar, and dried lavender. The fruit is restrained, in the black cherry and blackberry spectrum, but without being dried out. The tannins are sturdy but are starting to resolve, so pair now with hearty winter stews or tuck away for another 3-4 years while the fruit continues to hold on. There's an impressive amount of wine here for the price, with real depth and complexity. This continues to be outstanding value.Tasted: 06 October 2024Tasted by: Prices:
