Tedeschi Amarone della Valpolicella Capitel Monte Olmi 2016

Pedemonte Valpolicella, Verona, Veneto, ItalyAlways fragrant and mouth filling, the 2016 is a first rate effort. The attack is rich and full of mushrooms, black fruits, and balsamic that only expand and fill the palate. As big as it is, the acidity helps keep it fresh throughout. There is a lingering sweetness and mineral notes among its fine grained tannins, suggesting it will easily hit the ten year mark in a bottle, and likely age for another two or three decades with ease. One for collectors. Impressive, and just getting started at the eight-year mark. Monte Olmi is the vineyard at Pedemonte di Valpolicella, in the heart of Valpolicella Classico. The 2.5 hectare site has a southwestern exposure and is organized on terraces to ensure efficient drainage. The soil is riddled with clay, which is the key to the vineyard not drying out in the driest of years. Monte Olmi has been farmed since the early 60s, creating one of the first single-vineyard wines in Valpolicella. It is planted to 30% corvina, 30% corvinone, 30% rondinella, and 10% oseleta, negrara, dindarella, croatina and forselina. The grapes are dried for four months before getting a soft pressing.Tasted: 13 July 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
