Tedeschi Amarone della Valpolicella Capitel Monte Olmi 2008

Pedemonte Valpolicella, Verona, Veneto, ItalyThe fully mature 2008 is full of life as it progresses along the Amarone maturation line. The tannins are mostly evaporated, revealing a rich palate of black and blue fruits, leather, minerals, wood smoke, pepper and tobacco. This is a wine for contemplation and a hunk of old Reggiano. There is no rush to drink this, but it is entering its zenith year now. Monte Olmi is the vineyard at Pedemonte di Valpolicella, in the heart of Valpolicella Classico. The 2.5 hectare site has a southwestern exposure and is organized on terraces to ensure efficient drainage. The soil is riddled with clay, which is the key to the vineyard not drying out in the driest of years. Monte Olmi has been farmed since the early 60s, creating one of the first single-vineyard wines in Valpolicella. It is planted to 30% corvina, 30% corvinone, 30% rondinella, and 10% oseleta, negrara, dindarella, croatina and forselina. The grapes are air-dried on straw mats (appassimento) for four months before getting a soft pressing.Tasted: 13 July 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
