British Columbia, CanadaHighly curiously, this pinot noir, 97% from South Thompson's Thadd Spring Vineyards is met with 3% petit verdot from the Similkameen. It was destemmed (15% whole clusters), inoculated, and macerated for 19 days before aging 17 months in neutral wood (225L barrels and a tank). Cherry compote, youthful blackberries lead a juicy core, with some powdery cocoa dusted tannins to frame, cedar spices to season, and a tart acidity to lift to a brief, baking spiced finish. The 97/3 mix of Kamloops pinot noir and oddly Similkameen petit verdot spent 17 months in neutral French oak barrels and stainless, yielding a silky texture and juicy quality that is close to Micheal’s heart. It’s not a knockout wine, but rather a solid everyday pinot you can enjoy any night of the week. Look for a mix of red cherries, earthy underbrush, floral undertones, and a wisp of peppers.
