Pentâge Winery Syrah 2018

Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaPentâge works 14 hectares above Skaha Lake and makes just over 20 wines, including this 2018 Syrah, which is now six years old. Pentâge has been patient, sitting on wines before release and not rushing them to the market. The ’18 was released this year, and its bottle maturity is a big part of its attraction. A tiny amount of viognier, 0.5%, is the mystery. The nose is clean and intense, mixing jammy raspberry and fresh blueberry dusted with pepper and chocolate. The palate is rich and silky, with big, intense black and blue fruit, licorice, and polished tannins. Perfect now, it will age through 2028 with no problems, Lamb anyone? It was matured for 18 months in 70% French and 30% American oak. 30% of the barrels were new oak, and the remainder was aged in 2-4 year old barriques.Tasted: 08 April 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
