Selvapiana Riserva Vigneto Bucerchiale 2018

Tuscany, ItalyRufina is the smallest sub-region of Chianti Classico, northeast of Florence, and prized for its elevation (up to 900m) and soils (galestro, chalk, and marl). The estate was originally built as a summer residence for Florentine bishops and boasts 240 hectares, 45 of which are planted to vine and 31 to olives. It was purchased in 1827 by Michele Giuntini Selvapiana, and since 1957, it has been run by the 5th generation Giuntini family member, Francesco Giuntini Antinori. Consulting winemaker Franco Bernabei has been at Selvapiana since 1978, and Bucerchiale, the flagship red is only made in the very best years. The 2018 is a formidable sangiovese full of meaty salumi mixed with bright cherry. The mid-palate is savoury with notes of fennel and oregano before the tannins kick in. This is not a wine for sippers. Bucerchiale is sourced from vineyards planted in 1968 and 1992. It is a rare sole sangiovese and spends 32 months in French barriques before release.Tasted: 06 March 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
