CheckMate Artisanal Winery Attack Chardonnay 2021

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis blend of sites is consistently at the top of the chardonnay collection, and once again, 2021 delivers an appealing style with a boatload of finesse. From its historic canopy of vertical shoot positioning with a bilateral Geneva double curtain, to foudre-only fermenting vessels, it remains unique at Checkmate. In 2020, it was aged 16 months in 50% new oak, allowing the wine to express its terroir. Citrus and seaweed line the aromas, while pears, a subtle licorice undercurrent, tangerine, and a saline seawater permeate the wine through the finish. Its calling card is understated elegance and plenty of curb appeal. The fruit is a 35/35/15/15 mix of Jagged Rock Vineyard, Dekleva Vineyard, Combret Vineyard, and Border Vista Vineyards, containing Dijon 76 and the local Dekleva and Combret clones.Tasted: 08 March 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
