Champagne Marc Hébrart Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes Premier Cru NV

Vallée de la Marne, Champagne, FranceJean-Paul Hébrart took over Marc Hébrart from his father in 1997. His father had been producing estate bottled wines since 1964 and joined the Club Trésors in 1985. Jean-Paul has slowly risen to become one of the star grower estates in the Marne, including privileged holdings in Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, and Dizy in the Grande Vallée as well as Avize, Oiry and Chouilly in the Côte, plus recently acquired vineyards in Louvois in the Montagne. Jean-Paul harvests, presses, and vinifies each of his over 85 plots separately, blending sites to make harmonious wines that reflect the personality of the grower as well as the terroir. As the name suggests, this is a blend of favourite old vines (50+ years) in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and a blend of 80/20 pinot noir/chardonnay, based on 2019, with 40% reserves from 2018. It was fermented and aged in stainless steel with full MLF, then aged on the lees for 30 months. This bottle was disgorged in December 2022 with 5 g/L. Ripe red apple, cherry brioche, bread dough, and crystaline ginger is lit with a buzzy chalky lemon, lifting the creamy ripe heft of these older vines. There's a wave of oxidation that tires this a bit, but the aforementioned electric acidity works to solve it. One to work with creamy / smoked dishes.Tasted: 19 March 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
