Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaPer Se, the top wine from Black Hills, is showing strongly in 2020, under Ross Wise MW's direction and the strong and smart favouritism of cabernet franc. This vintage blends 79% cabernet franc with 21% merlot, all native fermented before resting 18 months in French barriques (17% new). Dusky black cherry, black plum, dark espresso, and ferrous notes are imbued with scrubby desert herbs, and housed with finely grippy tannins, structuring this medium+ red through a lingering finish. There's such a lovely ease to this savoury red, with a restraint that is welcome, and a quiet confidence that is impressive.
