Da Silva Merlot 2020
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWinemaker Richard Silva makes this merlot from fruit grown in two distinct areas: a Naramata fluvial terrace at Blenheim Hill Vineyard; and the Penticton West Bench at Lazy Dog Vineyard. Gravel, shale, and loams feed the fruit that is crushed and fermented in 1/2 ton batches before ageing in French and American oak barrels for 20 months. The colour is medium red. The nose opens with a cool herbaceous, piney note over light red fruit. The palate is smooth with more spicy light red fruit and a savoury back end. Surprisingly delicate and cool for such a noted vintage.
