Bachelder Hill of Wingfield Chardonnay 2021

Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaThe 2020 vintage of Hill of Wingfield was one of my favourite wines from last year. It's richer and more opulent in style and, if anything, the 2021 vintage is perhaps pushed a notch too far. The fruit is lifted, honeyed and quite evolved already, though there's no questioning the depth and complexity on display, with a combination of ripe nectarine, baked apple, candied lemon, marzipan, and toasted nuts. There's the fruit concentration to effortlessly carry the more forward oak, at least relative to Bachelder's other chardonnays, leading to a savoury finish with very good length. It's such an impressive, distinctive wine.Tasted: 16 December 2023Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:
