Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Napa Valley, California, United StatesFreemark Abbey is on a roll under the Jackson Family Wines banner, with winemakers Kristy Melton and Ted Edwards. We first tasted this wine last November but got another shot at it this week, and it remains a stellar bottle that continues to impress. It is a full-flavoured cabernet that opens with rich dark baking chocolate and blackberry scents. Similar flavours dominate the palate, with some espresso streaks and, importantly, a bright acidity that refreshes the palate and energizes its juicy side. It was a mostly perfect year for Napa cabernet sauvignon, and this warm, spicy red offers everything you could want at this price point. The final blend is 90% cabernet sauvignon, 8% merlot, 2% petit verdot, 2% malbec and 1% cabernet franc. The fruit comes from across Napa Valley, led by 33% from Oakville, 20% from Atalon, 5% from Keyes, and 2% from Sycamore. About 40% of the fruit is purchased, and all of it was aged for 24 months in French oak barrels, of which 41% were new. Drink now or hold—you're unlikely to be disappointed.Tasted: 13 February 2026Tasted by: Prices:
