Corcelettes Petit Verdot Micro Lot Series 2021
Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWinemaker Charlie Baessler is growing a half acre of petit verdot vines over stony ancient Stemwinder soils, doing what few can, namely bottling a solo varietal version you may want to drink. The magic is in the savoury Similkameen desert wildflower nose that spills onto a palate with dried herbs, black plums, Christmas cake, dried black cherries, and a peppery finish. Petit Verdot made its stripes in great years in Bordeaux when needed, but it added something magical to the great vintages of 1945, 1953, 1961, 1982, and many others. The density of this wine is impressive, and the chalky tannins are inviting, suggesting you could drink it if you had to, but it would also cellar easily for more than a decade.
