Serralunga, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyFontanafredda's Barolo can be considered an entry into Barolo. From clay-limestone soils, this was fermented in stainless at warm temperature before 2 years aging in Slavonian and French casks. Worn leather, crunchy cherry, and ripe raspberry is pinned with ragged, sticky tannins, and tart with a cranberry / tomato acidity, taking this to a pasty finish. Look for fresher vintages for drinking now.Tasted: 06 March 2024Tasted by: Prices:
Serralunga, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyThe platinum label reflects the Fontannafreda tradition built across 160 years of history. The Nebbiolo used to produce this Barolo is grown in the Alba area of Langhe over clay-limestone marl soils. The fermentation is traditional, lasting 15 days with frequent pumpovers before ageing 24 months in large Slavonian and French oak casks before spending 8 months in bottle at the winery. It's quite a traditional tarry style with savoury dried herbs mingling with leather, spice, and light red fruit. Firm and dry with moderately spicy tannins, it needs food to match now, or another year or two to mature.Tasted: 11 October 2023Tasted by: Prices:
