Poplar Grove Syrah 2019

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaDeep purple, near opaque, the blend here is 95% syrah, 4% malbec and 1% viognier. The Syrah grapes were sourced and hand picked at Haynes Vineyards on the Osoyoos East Bench, and a four day cold soak preceded the fermentation. A quarter of the wine was aged 15 months in new French oak barrels, with remainder elevated in two year old French oak barrels. Unusually, but much appreciated by this critic, the wine is further developed in a bottle for 21 months at the winery before its release. The nose is Okanagan desert fragrant with savoury scrub, blueberries, and cracked pepper. Look for fresh, crunchy acidity playing host to dark plums, florals, black pepper, and cocoa. Youthful and just beginning its journey, this is a good one to follow.Tasted: 23 September 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
