Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Estate Reserve is the king of reds at Clos du Soleil. Only 96 cases were made in 2016, perhaps the finest vintage ever for BC reds. The grapes are farmed following biodynamic principles en route to organic certification. This blend is a 33/32/20/12/3 mix of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, petit verdot, and malbec. Each variety is fermented on its own and spends 18 months in French oak barrels before the cuvée is put together. This wine has the potential to wow the wine world from the get go, thanks to its savoury, complex aromas of cassis and desert scrub. The palate is alive, not to mention electric, boasting multiple layers of black cherries, plums, and graphite, and great acidity before dense, sweet, rounded tannins fill in the finish. Impressively balanced at the beginning of its life, this wine will age gracefully for 25 years. It’s bottled without fining or filtration to stay whole.Tasted: 05 September 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaOnly 96 cases of this wine, the pinnacle of their organically / biodynamically farmed estate terroir, was made in 2016. This vintage was a blend of 33% cabernet sauvignon, 32% merlot, 20% cabernet franc, 12% petit verdot, and 3% malbec. Each variety was fermented separately, and then rested in French barrels for 18 months prior to the blend. The finished wine was bottled without fining or filtration. This, the 2016, is a new release. Savoury and complexed from first sip, with layers of dusty graphite, wild blackberry, ripe plum, cassis, cedar, pencil shavings on a generously juicy core. The finish lingers with a mineral hum. Best with a slight chill, and something from the grill.Tasted: 14 August 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaI've tasted a number of great wines from the 2016 vintage, and this is one of the best yet. It's a wow wine: not in its ripeness or richness, but rather its detail, elegance, and transparency. It keeps drawing you back in, with layers of vibrant black fruits, dried herbs, cedar, and crushed stones. This wouldn't be out of place in a line-up of Bordeaux classified growths. Not because this wine is trying to be something that it's not, but because it's that good. It’s drinking exceptionally well now thanks not only to its refined tannins and juicy acidity, but also the fact that the winery has kept this back in the cellar prior to release. A complete wine that will continue to age gracefully for years; you'll look back and wonder how you bought this for just over $50.Tasted: 21 August 2020Tasted by: Prices:
