Garnet Valley, Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThree limited edition Garnet Valley Ranch wines have been released this year, including this chardonnay grown between 600-680 metres above sea level. It was whole-cluster-pressed and fermented in concrete before ageing in concrete and stainless. Look for the spare style of winemaker Matt Dumayne, albeit now with a very creamy texture and some surprising tropical notes. The attraction is the desert savoury scrub and minerality that give this chardonnay a unique BC signature. Tasted twice already, and it’s impressive—definitely a wine of place and one for contemplation. Garnet Valley is a magical place, as is the eponymous Garnet Valley Ranch. The Coletta/Lornie property is coming into its own in 2023 with some help along the way from some famous wine folks. The 130-hectare Summerland property was purchased in 2013 at the urging of Chilean terroir consultant Pedro Parra, who designed fifteen unique vineyard blocks, employing extensive research to determine viticulture strategies. The first blocks were planted in 2014, and as of 2023, the site has 18 ha of vines: pinot noir, gamay noir, chardonnay, riesling, and chenin blanc, planted in volcanic and glacial matter (including alluvial course sand with limestone and rock) that varies from block to block.Tasted: 05 May 2023Tasted by: Prices:

Garnet Valley, Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAs has been the case with Okanagan Crush Pad / Haywire of late, this wine has undergone a rebrand, losing the Haywire name altogether, and relaunched under the new Garnet Valley Ranch label. 2021 marks the 2nd solo chardy release off their organically farmed Garnet Valley Ranch estate vineyards, with blocks sitting between 600-680m. This was whole cluster pressed and fermented in concrete, and aged in a mix of concrete and stainless. Crushed stones and desert scrub pervades this medium bodied white, giving it a distinctive savoury, smokey edge. White peach, smoked lemon fill out the textural core, which tapers off into lingering citrus / smoked salts. This is not about the fruit, but is about a place.Tasted: 02 May 2023Tasted by: Prices:
