Modest Wines The Elder Vicar 2022

Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Elder Vicar is said to refer to Father Pandosy, the first European settler in the Okanagan, while at the same time being a clever nod to the classic Alsace white, Edelzwicker. Edelzwicker is a blend of pinot gris, riesling, gewürztraminer, and muscat, something refreshing and bright with enough spice and flavours to take on substantial Alsatian food. The BC version from Lazy River Vineyard in the Similkameen Valley is a wild, co-fermented version of 50/28/15/5 riesling, gewürztraminer, pinot gris, and muscat that comes with a modest 6.5 grams per litre of residual sugar. The nose is a stonefruit, citrus, and litchi affair with more orchard fruit and honeysuckle on the palate. It's built for spicy foods and richer white meat dishes, and quickly reminds one of Alsace.Tasted: 17 April 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
