Modest Wines Côt Blocked 2021

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFew people can market like Mt. Boucherie, but few consumers likely know what they are talking about until they modestly explain it. For example, Côt is an ancient grape, served to kings and queens. It landed in Argentina in 1868 from Cahors, France and was soon celebrated as malbec, in effect blocking the name Côt from existence. Fast forward to British Columbia's Similkameen Valley and the Lazy River Vineyard, home to this blackish wine, although at 12.6 percent alcohol, it is far more elegant and modest than those blockbuster malbecs from Cahors. It spent 13 months in neutral American, French, and Hungarian oak. The attack is dry and spicy with a wonderfully fresh undercurrent and a few sticky tannins but it is an otherwise cerebral edition of malbec. It is a perfect wine to order at the Modest Butcher, the winery restaurant that specializes in dry-aged beef.Tasted: 17 April 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
