Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaOff Golden Mile Bench's South Rock Vineyard, and its gravelled fluvial soils, this old vine gew (clone 47, planted 1973) was fermented on skins over 4 days in stainless where it remained for a short stint prior to bottling. Upon cracking the screw cap this has a lot of reductive and vegetal notes, which improve gradually with a good amount of air time. Underneath you'll find some pear skin, white peach, and subtle apricot on a watery palate, with a little rasp of ginger spicing on the warming bitter finish. The vineyard is home to some of the oldest vines in British Columbia. These clone 47 gewürztraminer ungrafted vines planted in 1973 get four days of skin contact before fermentation in stainless steel. The nose is restrained with quiet ginger and floral undertones that support a dry palate with a touch of skin-contact phenolic bitterness.
