Red Rooster Petit Verdot 2020

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaHarvested mid-October from the Crespo vineyard, this PV was fully ripened in the Osoyoos region of the southern Okanagan Valley. The grapes were sorted, destemmed, crushed, and fermented in multiple bins. The tannins, flavours and colour were carefully managed over 27 days with exacting punch-downs meant to avoid harsh notes. The result is fresh wine that underwent complete malolactic fermentation in barrel before ageing 18 months in new and older French oak vessels: one 500-litre puncheon coopered in 2020, two 225-litre barriques coopered in 2019, two 225-litre barriques coopered in 2017. The colour is opaque purple/black, the nose a sweet floral mix of black plum and cherry, with savoury vanilla streaks and smoky cigar box notes. It is a big wine, but the structure is well-defined and manageable. Not as dry as the Uppercase PV but instead buoyed by an underlying acidity that balances off its robust nature. Look for spicy black and blue fruit and long, dense tannins with lingering espresso scents. Give this 5-8 years of bottle age and always serve with lamb or an equally powerful menu item — exceptional winemaking.Tasted: 03 December 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
