Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is a Merlot-dominant Okanagan red blend that's certainly big, bold, and ripe, but already nicely resolved with long, fine tannins thanks to 24 months in wood (35% new). That lends a somewhat evolved character, combining dried dark fruits, cedar, and earth. For my palate, this will be best enjoyed over the short term, but there's no question this has the stuffing to continue to hold for the next 5+ years. Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaSummit is a proprietary red blend selected from the best Mt. Boucherie vineyard blocks in Lost Horn Vineyard, Okanagan Falls, South Rock Vineyard, Golden Mile Bench, and Lazy River Vineyard in South Cawston, Similkameen Valley. After that, it is a best barrels selection made by winemaker Jeff Hundermark. The 2019 mix is 57% merlot, 26% cabernet franc, 9% carménère, 5% malbec, 2% cabernet sauvignon, and 1% syrah. Like last year, the styling is getting more elegant, and the current blend is more amenable for drinking, which is a big plus. I like the texture and subtle aromatics before the California black and blue fruits and cedar mineral notes round out through the finish.
