CheckMate Artisanal Winery Knight's Challenge Chardonnay Sunset Vineyard 2020

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaKnight's Challenge is all about texture, according to winemaker Phil McGahan. It comes off Sunset Vineyard on the Black Sage Bench. It remains a vineyard of contrasting elevations and east/west row orientations that affect the wine's disposition more than its 29-year-old Dijon clones (76 and 95). Two distinct blocks go into the wine, allowing for separate pick dates to maintain its inviting balance of power from the warmer upper block and freshness from the cooler lower block. The move to organic viticulture keeps the alcohol in check at 13.9, giving the wine a vibrant personality. This is an enticing style of chardonnay with aromas of sagebrush, floral spice, peach blossom, and melon, underscored by subtle fruit and oak. The palate is equally on point, mixing more desert garrigue with honey, lime, and mineral saline notes — a wine for chardonnay lovers.Tasted: 17 November 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
