CheckMate Artisanal Winery Knight's Challenge Chardonnay Sunset Vineyard 2019

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaKnight’s Challenge is all about texture, according to winemaker Phil McGahan. It comes off Sunset Vineyard on the Black Sage Bench and remains a wine where elevation changes and east/west row orientations affect the wine's disposition more than its 28-year-old Dijon clones (76 and 95). Two distinct blocks go into the wine, allowing for separate pick dates to maintain its inviting balance of power and acidity. The move to organic viticulture continues to lower the alcohol, now resting at 13.7 percent, leaving the wine a lovely fresh demeanour in the glass. The aromas are an enticing mix of sagebrush garrigue and sea salt, with pear, honey, lime, and mineral notes. Well doneTasted: 10 January 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
