Bachelder Wismer-Foxcroft Nord Chardonnay 2020
Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaWismer-Foxcroft Nord Chardonnay comes off a steep, sloping vineyard five kilometres from Lake Ontario in Vineland. The stony-silty soils, mixed with limestone, provide an excellent medium for growing chardonnay. Nord is definitely at the richer end of the Bachelder array of chardonnays but will garner a large audience who like fuller custard, pear with a touch of honey, almonds, and a lingering but light undercurrent of minerality. Could it be more reductive and electric? Maybe, but knowing Bachelder, what you are getting is what the site gives, and that’s the specificity of place.
