Yalumba The Octavius Barossa Old Vine Shiraz 2017

Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaThis is an impressive Octavius right off the hop with a beautifully fragrant nose full of aromatic florals. The palate is a mix of savoury black and red fruits with meaty, peppery notes and fine textures that come at you in layers and complexity. It is about as seamless as you can get for such a young wine, but there will be no hurry to drink this bottle. The blend mixes 71 percent Barossa Valley and 29 percent Eden Valley. This flagship shiraz sourced from some magical old vines dating back to 1854, which are some of the oldest shiraz plantings in the world (there's an overall average of 82 years in this bottle). It is all aged 23 months in 30 percent new oak, some of that being Yalumba coopered 100 litre oak octaves, the inspiration behind its name. One for the cellar.Tasted: 16 October 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
