Yalumba The Menzies Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Coonawarra, South Australia, AustraliaClassic Coonawarra, and it jumps from the glass: spice, balsamic, and savoury, earthy, leafy red fruits. The palate is a minty, spicy cassis affair with a whiff of tomato leaf. The weight is medium-full, and the texture is firm, with plenty of acids and firm tannin throughout the finish. 2017 was an excellent vintage in Coonawarra, adding to its herbaceous character. The vineyard site is flat, but the wine is alive thanks to its unique sandy loam over limestone, perhaps the defining feature of Coonawarra's top cabernet sites. Most of the vines are now 25 years of age, generally yielding small bunches and berries. The Yalumba game is minimalist intervention and small batch winemaking, making The Menzies a regional benchmark.Tasted: 16 October 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
