Phantom Creek Estates Pinot Gris 2020
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaOlivier Humbrecht, the legendary Alsace winemaker and biodynamic guru, is the consulting white winemaker (his only consultation outside his estate in Alsace) at Phantom Creek. Hence, it is easy to get excited about his pinot gris. While we wait for the wild stony Similkameen property to make it to bottle, Humbrecht shapes the 2020 gris from Peachland by slowly fermenting the fruit to dryness in Austrian white oak foudres, and ageing it for 19 months in 32% French oak, 38% Austrian oak, and 30% stainless steel. Typically floral and fragrant with light citrus and a touch of croissant, the palate resembles pear and litchi blended into a spicy, soft plush finish. It is not a style for everyone, but it is a style oenophiles will applaud. The final wrapping was a small harvest that elevated the overall intensity of the wine.Tasted: 28 October 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $27.99 | 750ml | BCLS |
