Nederburg The Motorcycle Marvel 2016
Western Cape, South AfricaThis series is named after special people in the history of the legendary company (since 1791) and this cuvée of carignan, shiraz, grenache, and mourvèdre from across the Western Cape was named in honour of Günter Brözel, a Nederburg winemaker who rode by motorcycle and was awarded the International Winemaker of the Year in 1985. The high proportion of grenache is most likely influencing the browning hue here, and imparting the leathery underlay to this blend. Dried cherry, dried leaves, nutmeg fill out the rest of this aging blend, with a chewy texture and sticky tannins. The oxidative finish carries salted dried fruits.
