Nederburg Heritage Heroes The Anchor Man Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2018
Western Cape, South AfricaThe Anchor Man was named for Nederburg’s founder, Philippus Wolvaart, who established the Nederburg farm in 1791. These Chenin vines came from Swartland and Agter-Paarl, between 36-40 years old. One portion was fermented in first, second, and third use use 300 and 500L barrels; another part was fermented in stainless tanks; the third portion was fermented in amphorae. Post-ferment, the parts were kept on their lees for 9 months prior to the final blending and bottling. Ripe pear, yellow apple is carried along a waxen honeyed sheen, with finely buzzy texture throughout to the shorter, bitter edged finish.
