Caruso and Minini Perricone Naturalmente Bio 2020

Sicily, ItalyLocated on the westernmost shores of Sicily, Caruso & Minini's history reaches back to the late 1800’s when Antonio Caruso bought the company to grow grapes for the nearby Marsala factories. The company was passed through subsequent generations until Nino Caruso finally decided to begin making and bottling his own wine in the mid 1900’s. In 2004, Stefano Caruso joined forces with Mario Minini of Lombardy to launch the present-day winery, producing wines from indigenous grapes such as Catarratto. Today, Stefano’s daughter Giovanna works closely with her father to head up this historic winery, while also cultivating 5ha organically for her own side project, Naturalmente Bio. This is an unoaked Perricone, allowing the indigenous grape to shine, and it does in spades. Ample scrubby resinous perfume pervades every second of this medium bodied wine (reminiscent of Lacrima), with wild mint, rosemary, basil, pink peppercorn across a waxen, streamlined form, lined with long, fine tannins and lifted with a buzzy stony saline acidity. Very characterful and charming perricone, ready to crack and enjoy with food (think mushrooms, winter squash, pork, lamb).Tasted: 15 October 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
