Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis traditional method sparkling wine, crafted from 73% chardonnay, 25% pinot noir, and 2% pinot meunier, reveals refreshing aromas of Bartlett pear, green apple, and white peach. Aged on the lees for 24 months, it offers delicate autolytic notes, reminiscent of crème fraîche, along with fine mousse. Its linear structure is upheld by a pronounced sharp acidity, leading to a dry finish with subtle smokiness and a touch of salinity. A crisp, clear-cut sparkler that shows a good balance of pure fresh fruit and leesy notes.Tasted: 26 September 2023Tasted by: Prices:
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFitz Brut has been a quality sparkler from day one, and it’s no different in 2018. The mix is three-quarters chardonnay with roughly one-quarter pinot noir and a splash of pinot meunier, all off the home Greata Ranch Vineyard. Winemaker Sarah Bain ages the Brut 24 months most years before it gets a mild dosage of 5.5-6.5 grams of sugar per litre, leaving this bubble dry to the taste. The fruit is crunchy and precise, mixing orchard pear and green apple with a dusting of wet stone and cherry pie. Consistently well made, offering complexity and style at a fair price. I like the winery match: salmon gravlax, a few capers, and maybe some pickled red onion.Tasted: 21 September 2022Tasted by: Prices:
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom this sparkling-centric central-Okanagan winery, Fitz Brut 2018 is predominantly chardonnay (73%), aided by 25% pinot noir, and 2% pinot meunier, all off their Greata Ranch Vineyard. After a stainless ferment, this aged 36 months on lees (12 months more than previous editions), with a dosage of 6.6 g/L. Orchard fresh, with crunchy Asian pear, green apple, Rainier cherry, subtle pear blossoms atop a bed of lightly toasted brioche, finishing with a lingering trail of salinity. Brisk and bright throughout, this is a very smart choice for enjoying now, or over the next few years.Tasted: 19 September 2022Tasted by: Prices:
