Cantine Madonna Delle Grazie Drogone d'Altavilla 2013

Basilicata, ItalyCantine Madonna della Grazie is a small organic / biodynamic winery in Venosa, in the heart of Vulture. Drogone d'Altavilla is made in only the best years when the Liscone vineyard's oldest vines produce something unique. The only vintages so far were 2003, 2007 and 2013. This aglianico comes off a parcel of the Liscone vineyard planted in 1968 on black volcanic clay and tuff at 420m. The ancient masale selection here has a notably higher natural acidity than all of their other parcels, making it the last to be harvested, usually in the first week of November. The wine is native fermented in stainless, where it remains for 2 years, prior to moving to 500L French barrels (80% new) for 3-4 years, and then back for a tightening stint in stainless for 6 months. It is bottled with a light filtration. Crushed rose petals, worked leather, dried raspberry is scented with scrubby rosemary and wild mint, and pinned with firm, long, lightly grippy tannins. Very structural and serious, this is drinking now, but designed for time ahead.Tasted: 01 September 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
