Mazzei Castello Fonterutoli Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2018

Tuscany, ItalyThis cru of sangiovese comes off 11 parcels surrounding the Fonterutoli hamlet, in the heart of Castellina in Chianti. It is a mix of 6 clones plus 8 massale selections, rooted in albarese and limestone. After a stainless ferment, this spent 18 months in 500L French oak (50% new) before 4 months in concrete tank. Still quite knit and reserved, this structural wine shows black cherry, dark perfumed raspberry across a fine leather and broken stone base. Acidity is limestone lofted, and tannins are long and finely sticky, guiding this finessed wine to a lingering finish. Very elegant; this will certainly be enjoyed now with a decant, and over the years to come.Tasted: 20 August 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
