Tuscany, ItalyRocca delle Macie was established in 1973 by acclaimed Italian film producer Italo Zingarelli. The property spans 600 hectares and six estates across Tuscany. Rocca today is led by Italo's son Sergio, his wife Daniela, and two children. The winemaking includes maceration of the 95/5 sangiovese/merlot must with the skins for 12-14 days with short but frequent pumpovers to extract colour. Post-fermentation in stainless, the malolactic fermentation goes in concrete before it all rests in large Slavonian oak for 6-10 months. The nose is clean and fresh with hints of wild red berries. The palate is a savoury affair of cherries, leather, mushrooms, and balsamic. It is an easy drinking 13.5 percent alcohol red you can serve mid-week with a cheesy pizza or spaghetti and meatballs.Tasted: 12 August 2022Tasted by: Prices:

Tuscany, ItalyRocca delle Macìe was founded in 1973 by legendary film producer Italo Zingarelli. His impressive film career allowed him to fulfill his dream to produce wine. His son, Sergio, oversees the operations today. This sangiovese is tipped with 5% merlot sourced from their 4 estates in Castellina in Chianti. After primary fermentation in stainless, and MLF in concrete, this rested in large Slavonian oak for 6-10 months. Sun-ripened cherry, leather, ripe raspberry, wet forest stretches along the medium+ palate, with furry tannins framing the sides, and tart stony acidity to meet.
