Domaine Ostertag Sylvaner Vieilles Vignes 2020

Alsace, FranceDomaine Ostertag is Alsace legend, biodynamic since 1997, and known for non-interventionist wines of depth, and place. André Ostertag owns 14.4 hectares of vineyards in over 80 separate plots spread over the villages of Epfig, Nothalten, Itterswiller, Ribeauvillé, and Albé. His Sylvaner is always a highlight, with 50+ year old vines from several plots across clay, gravel and sands. The grape used to be 25% of production in Alsace, but has dropped to around 7% today. Low yields keep this focused and pure. It was native fermented and aged 8 months on lees in stainless. Dry, tight, and light, with elderflower, apricot skin, pear blossoms, and fine stony spice that beds this wine and lingers on the finish. Subtle, yet concentrated, and elegant, this smart wine would be a lovely pour alongside spring veg / white fish dishes.Tasted: 19 August 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
