Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaThis is the second release of Unsworth Chardonnay, the forerunner to a wave of quality chardonnay coming from the Island, planted with the right clones, and in the right place this time. This comes off Mildenstein Vineyard (used to be Godfrey Brownell), and was whole cluster pressed, with partial native ferment, in neutral barriques. There's lovely subtle, savoury, flinty reduction imbued in this coastal white, drawing lemon, green apple, fresh hazelnuts, verbena, and ample flake salts along its brisk, streamlined path, with a subtle softening from time in barrique. Quite remarkable, this stands shoulders to quality Chablis, yet tastes distinctly Wine Islands.Tasted: 07 August 2023Tasted by: Prices:
Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada2020 marks the second chardonnay release at Unsworth, fast becoming part of a bigger story on Vancouver Island. It is a cool climate expression that opens with a juicy palate quickly transformed by minerality, bright acidity, lemon curd, hazelnuts, and spice. Best of all, it happens at around 12 percent alcohol. This label appears to have a very bright future, as does the Cowichan Valley.Tasted: 08 July 2022Tasted by: Prices:
