Mathilde Chapoutier Côtes-du-Rhône 2020

Côtes du Rhône, Rhone Valley, FranceFrom the legendary Michel Chapoutier's daughter, Mathilde, this sans-soufre blend of grenache and syrah comes from calcareous gravels over clay. Destemmed grapes went to concrete for 4 weeks' native ferment, after which the wine remains there for 5 months to rest. The concrete has added a welcome textural component, threaded throughout downy plum, black raspberry on a softer, shorter palate. Tannins are fine and sticky, hugging a muddied core to the subtly spiced finish. One for drinking now, with lighter, simple fare.Tasted: 12 April 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
