Luis Seabra Xisto Cru 2019

Cima Corga, Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalAfter a successful decade as winemaker at Niepoort, Luis Seabra decided to break out on his own, leaving his own name on the wines of Douro. From two clay loam / blue slate high altitude vineyards in the Cima Corgo, Xisto Cru Tinto blends Rufete, Touriga Franca, Tinta Carvalha, Alicante Bouchet, Donzelinho Tinto, Malvazia Preta and others, from vineyards 80+ years old. This was native fermented, whole cluster, with maceration over one month in open old wood port wine vats. Post pressing, this was aged 20 months in 228L French barrels. A reductive swing pinches this wine upon opening, which leads into savoury wild blackberry, thorns, purple florals, worked leather, and ample cracked fragrant peppercorns. Tannins are firm and grippy at this youthful point, structuring this wine for some years ahead. At this time, this reserved wine benefits from some airtime, and would well suit roasted lamb or pork.Tasted: 08 March 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
