Gómez Cruzado Cerro Las Cuevas 2019

Rioja, SpainGómez Cruzado operates out of their 135-year-old cellar (founded 1886) in the Station District in Haro, the historic heart of Rioja. The bodega focuses on sustainably farmed old vine plots and indigenous varieties. The Cerro Las Cuevas comes from their Ollauri vineyards and the Las Laderas and Calitrancos sites, where the 90+-year-old vines grow on very narrow, steep slopes. It blends 80% tempranillo, 12% graciano, 3% mazuelo, and 5% garnacha from the sites' limestone pebbles and sandy soils. After native fermentation in open stainless vats, it was aged in French foudre. Tight, mineral-laden cherry, wild raspberry buzzes along the savoury palate, bedded with leather and perfumed with baking spices. Limestone and iodine vibrate throughout, easily carrying this to a lingering stony finish. Modern, exciting, finessed Rioja.Tasted: 10 March 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
