CheckMate Artisanal Winery Silent Bishop Merlot 2018

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaI like to think Silent Bishop accentuates the vagaries of its south Okanagan site. It comes from the cooler western benches under Mount Kobau, where it collects the gentle early morning sun, and at 49 degrees north, that could be as early as 5 am all summer, while escaping the late day baking rays as the sun slips behind Kobau. Three sites are involved in the Bishop: Oliver North, Golden Mile, and Osoyoos West, situated between 313 and 400 metres above sea level. The ’18 opens with some herbaceous notes with medium weight and silky textures throughout its redcurrant, raspberry palate streaked with coffee and tobacco. You can drink this now, but it will age effortlessly through 2025 and beyond. The blend is 86/2/2/10 merlot, cabernet franc, petit verdot, and syrah.Tasted: 11 February 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
